As the first level of protection, the primary packaging for medical products is essential and is evaluated in the early stage during the phase II of the drug development. Whether it is a vial, a syringe, a bottle or a flexible bag, the primary packaging must guarantee the perfect stability and the integrity of the drug by avoiding any interaction that may hinder the patient’s safety.
The next level of protection, the secondary packaging, paperboard boxes or overwraps, ensures the protection during the storage and the shipment. They also must meet all the requirements in terms of sustainability as the pharmaceutical industry must reach the carbon reduction targeted in the Paris Agreement.
